Tech-y Lesson of the Month: Aurasma
What is Aurasma? Watch this- It is powerful stuff!
|
What if we could make images come to life in education? Math problems explained, doorways describing the class taught, books reviewing themselves, history coming to life- This can happen in 3 easy steps.
First, Download the Aurasma App to your device Click below for access to the app for your platform. For apple_ Google Play Next, record an overlay, either a video or another image of what you want people to know. Use the camera on your device or create the object elsewhere and download it to your device. Finally, capture an image that will be the trigger for your overlay to show. What are you going to have accessible to the students in the room for them to scan? When you scan the image with the app, the object will display the overlay (video or image) you associated with it! |
Here is how I used Aurasma:
The Safety Lesson
The Old Way:
Students watched a PowerPoint and took notes on the safety rules for the classroom. Then they took an online quiz on what they had learned to prove they understood the safety rules of the room.
The New Way:
Students walked around the room in small groups with the app and scanned various elements in the room (doorways, desks, pictures). As they do, the object comes to life and shows a movie of me explaining the safety rule. Then students return to a computer and add their findings to a google presentation with what they saw in the video. They collaborate on the presentation so that if they don't find them all, someone else will! The scavenger hunt feel keeps them motivated, the videos keep the message very clear. The collaboration piece gets all students involved and working together. The result is clear, the lesson is more student centered, focused and produced greater results in understanding.

What's on Liz's iPad?
I am frequently asked, "What apps do you like?" Well here is my current favorite list! I've attached here an explanation of what each one does, and yes they are all FREE! These are all also available on the Google Play store for Android devices.
